About Marcata Recording

Marcata Recording was first started by The Walkmen in 2000 as a purely analog facility.  The studio was located in Harlem inside what had been a Nascar production facility.

I came on board in 2003 and took over daily operations, bringing my collection of vintage microphones, preamps, and a long history of studying great live performance from the decade of work as a live sound engineer/designer at the now defunkt but not forgotten venue Brownies in New York City’s East Village.  This is where I developed my love of living interactions between musicians, and the ability to recognize the spirit of an artists’ vision, and to act with a sense of urgency toward nurturing an environment to allow that vision to be realized at any cost.

I believe “Marcata Recording” to be a conceptual action, and a state of mind- not really “just a recording studio where I do my work”. Marcata Recording- the physical studio specializes in many old school tools, techniques, values, and huge reverberant spaces. It is intended to feel familiar to where artists work, not pristine, very actively “lived in”, with a simple air of necessity as it’s design aesthetic.

I offer clients my personal studio mixed with a working knowledge of composition, performance, analog/digital technology, and an artist driven sense of production, and personal dedication. These are the tools and sentiments I use to create timeless records that represent the life and ideas of artists.
